Dear YCTC Community and Friends,
The disruption due to COVID and the recent threat of wildfires nearby has made us appreciate how well the communities of Yamhill and Carlton work together when challenges arise. Personally, I am so heartened by those in our community who stepped up by helping evacuate livestock and families from the fires near Bald Peak and Hagg Lake. Closer to home, many of our volunteers have made time in their schedules to get our youth sports programs back on the fields so that our kids can play together, have fun, and learn about teamwork and gain leadership skills. We know those programs that are currently cleared to run are still heavily modified from our programs prior to last March. We hope to bring more programs back as soon as we can safely do so. In addition, we’re working with the school district to bring some elective activities under our Tiger Academy umbrella of aftercare and academic enrichment programs. We all know that working families are faced with hard choices. There are the difficulties of trying to provide for our children and keep them engaged in online learning. We recognize that in a rural community, some families lack the resources that are necessary for their children to access online education. More, we know our kids learn best when they are working with their peers and teachers with hands-on activities. Returning to school will require some considerable progress to end the pandemic; in the meantime, we are actively partnering with YCSD to find ways to help those most in need.
We’ve had to cancel our annual fundraiser, Flavors; however, we are planning a more modest online auction—Fall into Flavors—for the end of October, which will be capped off with a public, live event at our property south of YCES ( Yamhill Carlton Elementary School), our first annual Pumpkin Launch on November 1st. Bring your Halloween pumpkins and help raise funds for our work in the community while enjoying fare from local businesses.
