Summer Program Director

Job Description


The Camp Director is responsible for the preparation, coordination, and supervision of the overall camp program. Reporting to the Executive Director of Yamhill Carlton Together Cares, the Camp Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring a safe, well-organized, and enriching camp experience for participants.


  1. Program Preparation and Coordination:

    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop a comprehensive camp program that aligns with the organization's mission and goals.

    • Oversee the planning and coordination of daily camp activities, ensuring they are age-appropriate, engaging, and in line with the camp's objectives.

    • Review and approve the daily camp schedule, ensuring that activities are diverse, inclusive, and contribute to a positive camp experience.

  2. Communication and Collaboration:

    • Establish effective communication channels with parents, guardians, and camp staff to address inquiries, provide updates, and foster a positive camp environment.

    • Act as a point of contact for parents and guardians during and after camp hours, addressing concerns, sharing important information, and ensuring a smooth camp experience for participants.

    • Promote collaboration and teamwork among camp staff, encouraging open communication and mutual support to ensure efficient camp operations.

  3. Safety and Supervision:

    • Prioritize the safety, well-being, and protection of camp participants, staff, and the camp environment throughout all camp activities.

    • Develop and enforce safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk management strategies to minimize potential hazards.

    • Provide direct supervision and guidance to camp staff, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and maintaining a nurturing and secure atmosphere for campers.

    • Conduct regular inspections of camp facilities and equipment, promptly addressing any safety concerns or maintenance needs.

  4. Administrative Duties:

    • Plan, prepare, and organize daily camp activities, ensuring the availability of necessary supplies, materials, and resources.

    • Oversee the setup and cleanup of camp sites, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and an optimal environment for camp activities.

    • Handle administrative tasks, such as maintaining camper records, managing registrations, and completing reports as required.

    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop budgets, monitor expenditures, and provide recommendations for program enhancements.



  • High School Diploma

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage priorities effectively.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with parents, guardians, staff, and campers from diverse backgrounds.

  • In-depth knowledge of safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and risk management practices in a camp setting.

  • Leadership abilities to supervise and motivate camp staff, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

  • First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred.


This role demands strong leadership, organizational skills, and effective communication to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and impactful camp experience for all participants. The Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the camp's program, maintaining a secure environment, and executing administrative duties, in alignment with the mission and objectives of Yamhill Carlton Together Cares.
